Drew competing at the 2010 Paddle Challenge
CHAMPION LAKES BOATING CLUB JUNIORS CLUB
This is an exciting new initiative that commenced in April 2010 for 8-12 year olds. A second group targetting 13-16 year olds is set to commence in December 2010. CLBC is proud to announce a multi disciplined approach to paddling for juniors, aimed to keep the interest of even the most reluctant teenager! Disciplines covered will be flatwater sprint and marathon, canoe polo, whitewater fun and slalom. Youngsters will be encouraged to enter team events with support from club coaches and members.
Entry Requirements
Participants are required to complete a basic skills/ beginners course before commencing the juniors program. (See Education Menu on this website for details of the next basic skills course) They are also required to join Champion Lakes Boating Club (CLBC) as junior members and are therefore entitled to member benefits( see membership Meni on this website for details)
Programme
Juniors club training is normally held from 9.30-10.30am Saturday mornings at Champion Lakes Regatta Centre, unless major regattas or visits to other clubs/venues are scheduled. CLBC provides qualified coaches for the program at nominal monthly fees. They also provide a limited number of club boats and paddles for juniors but juniors will be encouraged to purchase their own craft to maximize personal development after training for 3 months. There will also be an option to lease a club boat on an annual basis. The program will be influenced by seasons and Canoeing WA or other paddling events which CLBC juniors will be encouraged to participate. These events will determine the paddling discipline and training the participants will be involved in preparation for individual or team competition. A Calendar of events will be provided by CLBC coaches for parents and juniors to help plan their season
