THE RACE
The Be Active Avon Junior Challenge is conducted by Canoeing WA, in association with the Northam’s Avon Descent Association. The race is open to junior paddlers from schools, clubs, and other organizations, and individuals.
The Be Active Avon Junior Challenge will be held on the Swan River, over the last 16 kilometres of the Avon Descent course. Participation is for three-person teams in two divisions and two age groups, and for individuals in two age groups.
In the three-stage team relay each competitor paddles one of the three stages. At each of the two changeovers, the team swaps the paddler and number bib, and the boat and any other equipment (such as buoyancy vest) as required.
In the individual race (the Iron-persons) competitors paddle the complete race, with no changeovers, stops, or portages.
